“Uphill Battle” forward for AARP Insurance coverage Class Motion Plaintiffs
Medicare supplementary policy holders offered by UnitedHealth Group Inc. to AARP Inc. members face an “uphill battle” to show they have been violated by an alleged “system” of illegal insurance commission collection, said a California federal judge on Thursday.
Jeremy Nichols and Leon Wilde accused AARP and United of charging consumers the cost of “illegal insurance commissions” which, according to the defendants, are actually royalties for branding and marketing Medicare supplemental insurance. Plaintiffs say AARP has been United’s de facto agent for years.
