UnitedHealth Rule Rewrite demonstrates change in psychological well being care
Law360 (July 30, 2021, 2:56 p.m. EDT) – A UnitedHealth Group unit has been on court-ordered case to change its approach to mental health and substance abuse treatment for nearly two years, and lawyers say it likely it will not be the only insurer facing a bill for support for such treatment in the midst of a national upheaval.
This shift in attitudes became apparent as the Biden administration, Congress, state governments, and the courts began to move towards greater enforcement of so-called parity laws on mental health. These measures require that benefit plans take behavioral health and substance abuse problems as seriously as they do physical health problems when deciding on coverage.
